Does ModelTrail track changes made by Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT in Excel?
Yes. While the add-in is open, ModelTrail records edits made in the workbook whether a person typed them or an AI assistant such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT made them. Each change shows the cell, the value or formula before and after, and when it happened. Edits made by an AI assistant are labeled as AI.
How is ModelTrail different from Excel version history?
Excel and OneDrive can keep older copies of a file. ModelTrail keeps a cell-level trail: which cell changed, the value or formula before and after, when it changed, and whether a person or an AI made the edit. You review those changes inside Excel, keep the ones you want, and revert the rest. Saved versions live in a private cloud workspace, so the history is not a pile of emailed copies.
Where do I install the ModelTrail Excel add-in?
ModelTrail is free to start on Microsoft AppSource (https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/WA200012457). In Excel, open Home, then Add-ins, and add ModelTrail. It runs in Excel on Windows, Mac, and Excel on the web. On the web, the workbook has to be saved in OneDrive or SharePoint before an add-in can run.
How much does ModelTrail cost?
Starter is free and includes the Excel add-in, 2 files, 2 repositories, the last 20 versions, and 15 AI summaries a month. Pro is $12 per month, with unlimited history, view-only sharing, 10 files, and 50 AI summaries a month. Team is $20 per contributor per month, with shared repositories, central billing, and member roles. Enterprise is quoted and adds single sign-on. Viewers are free on Pro and above.
